Among the classic signs of facial aging are laxity and drooping of the skin and loss of volume. These are manifest in such ways as jowling, creases around the lips (nasolabial folds, marionette lines), contour depressions and hollowing below the eyes and of the cheeks. Reversing or reducing these changes can result in a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance and can be most thoroughly accomplished with plastic surgery through a combination of surgical tightening and repositioning (facelift, blepharoplasty, forehead lift) and volume restoration (dermal fillers, fat injections).

Many people are either don’t want or are not ready for a surgical approach or just plain can’t afford it. Instead, they would rather seek improvements through dermal fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, Perlane® and Radiesse®. These are not a substitute for surgery but they can provide improvements in appearance with little to no down time – and for a fraction of the price of surgery for a given treatment.

Where can they be used?

Basically anywhere that there is a crease, fold, congenital or acquired volume deficiency or need for contour improvement.

The folds around the mouth (nasolabial folds, labiomental grooves and marionette lines) are typically the most common areas requested to be treated. Hollows under the eyes and of the cheeks can also benefit from these volume fillers as can deep ones of the temples. Chins and cheekbones that are deficient in projection can show stunning improvements. Sculpting of the brows, jaw line and even the nose can also be facilitated by these agents.

Each patient has her/his own unique needs, goals, and tissue characteristics which must be factored in for the most effective and desirable treatment. It has always been my philosophy that every one of my patients seeking rejuvenation with dermal fillers is treated in this fashion. As a consequence, I will even individualize the particular dermal filler(s) employed in treatment and this can include two or more different ones (because of different characteristics of each one). The dermal fillers that I offer include Juvederm® Ultra XC and Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC, Restylane®, Perlane® and Radiesse®. These can also be used together with Botox®.

A Message Regarding Coronavirus/COVID-19

In light of the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to let you know of some of the major precautions we are taking in our office to maximize cleanliness and keep the environment as sanitary and safe as possible. Our highest priority is always to ensure the safety of every individual who sees us and we are taking extreme infection-control measures to maintain cleanliness and “sterility” of surfaces and the overall environment.

We will be limiting dates and times for office appointments and consultations due to safety and other issues. Consequently, if you have already made an office appointment or consultation prior to March 18, 2020 to occur at a later time, this may need to be changed.

For anyone considering plastic surgery, we are now offering Virtual Consultations and Telemedicine through Skype. A great number of aesthetic or insurance-related issues can be evaluated via pictures and online video conferencing, making this an excellent way to find out more about particular procedures, determine candidacy for treatment, receive answers to questions and facilitate being able to move forward with care once the government lifts all restrictions.

In an abundance of caution, we are asking all current patients who are experiencing a fever, cough, chills, fatigue or any type of respiratory illness to please delay any upcoming appointments at our practice. We can talk with you by phone or email to establish a new date and time for the appointment.

We are all in this together. Our team urges everyone to follow the guidelines recommended by local health authorities and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which include frequent handwashing for a minimum of 20 seconds, social distancing, staying home if you are feeling sick, and contacting your healthcare provider if you feel you are experiencing symptoms.
