Life can be incredibly stressful, full of anxiety and depressing when you are a transman or a non-binary individual and are fighting gender dysphoria. Of course, some people’s situations are better or worse than others.
As we all know, life is never a “bed of roses” or a utopia. It is not easy nor is it only filled with happiness, positivity and optimism where all our desires are fulfilled and there is no adversity.
That is just not reality.
Being born in the wrong body and having to deal with all the consequences and manifestations can, at times, be more than overwhelming – something that you already know far too well without having to be told that. There are seemingly innumerable challenges and issues that you have to face which the average cis-male individual doesn’t have to.
Now for some good news.
Whether you are a transman or are non-binary, FTM or FTN top surgery can be extremely effective and rewarding for you – emotionally and physically. The results of this gender affirming procedure can be dramatic, predictable and excellent, allowing you to live your life normally or at least far more normally.
Top surgery is truly life changing and our patients tell us this all the time. They are so much happier, more positive and relaxed and less anxious or stressed and feel far more comfortable with themselves.
And, incredibly appreciative.
Once you have undergone the surgery, you can see the initial results of the transformation essentially immediately. Of course, the surgical dressing has to first be taken off (see: FTM Top Surgery: Life Changing Results in Less Than a Week). The full healing process, however, where the scars flatten out and the redness disappears, usually takes a year or longer. This is true of all types of surgeries or even injuries. So what you see at one, two or three months will generally be considerably improved at one year.
The photos shown here are of a transman patient of mine who underwent a FTM double incision free nipple graft mastectomy. The postoperative photos are at just one month – again very early in the healing process.
As would be expected – this patient was so incredibly happy and appreciative.
