Juvederm® Ultra/Ultra Plus, Juvederm Voluma™ & Juvederm Volbella®

As part of the natural progression of facial aging, skin wrinkles and creases form and atrophy of the soft tissues occurs with loss of the firmness and contours of youth. Although there are many different options available, injectable agents such as Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse® and one’s own fat are among the most popular choices and provide highly-effective treatment options for these problems. These same soft tissue fillers can also be used for augmentation of the lips and other areas of the face as well as for treatment of depressed scars. Dr. Steven Turkeltaub is a skilled plastic surgeon who has extensive experience in the usage of Juvederm®, Restylane®, other dermal fillers and fat injections which allows him to obtain the improvements that his patients desire.

Injectable Fillers: The Family of Juvederm® Fillers

Hyaluronic acid is a vital, naturally occurring substance present in large quantities throughout the body. Among its effects, this substance provides the fullness, resilience, and suppleness of our skin. As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in the body decreases, resulting in the loss of shape and volume and the appearance of lines and wrinkles. In order to combat these visible signs of aging and do so precisely and the best way possible, our practice offers the whole family of Juvederm® fillers in order to meet your specific needs and goals. These include:

  • Juvederm® Ultra XC
  • Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC
  • Juvederm Voluma™ XC
  • Juvederm Volbella® XC

These soft tissue fillers consist of safe hyaluronic acid based gels that help to restore or obtain the volume and contours desired. They each have unique characteristics that can provide you with the results that you are seeking.

Treatment with Juvederm® Ultra XC and Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC

In order to provide you with the maximum level of comfort with little or no pain, a nerve block is used which can effectively anesthetize the area to be treated. Both Juvederm® Ultra XC and Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC contain a local anesthetic designed to make the treatments essentially pain free. The injections of these fillers are done very precisely with magnification by Dr. Turkeltaub using very fine needles.

There will be some variable swelling after treatment which usually subsides within 24 to 48 hours. Makeup can be applied almost immediately (if desired) and there is no restriction of activities. This is why these are called “lunchtime” procedures. Treatment can be combined with BOTOX®, when indicated, in order to obtain an even greater improvement in your appearance and more global facial rejuvenation.

Juvederm® Ultra XC and Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC can basically be used anywhere on the face where there are creases and wrinkles as well as where there is a desire for increased volume and contour changes. Commonly treated areas include the lips, chin, cheeks, brows and the creases around the mouth and between the brows.

The results from these fillers generally persist for around six months to a year, the duration of which is affected by several factors. There are differences between the Juvederm ® products which can provide for better, more tailored results for your needs.

Juvederm Voluma™ XC

voluma-xc

Juvederm Voluma™ XC is the first and, presently, the only dermal filler approved by the FDA for the correction of age related volume loss in the cheeks and for mid-cheek lifting and contour corrections of the cheekbones. Though other fillers such as Juvederm® Ultra XC, Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC, Restylane® and Radiesse® have been successfully used off-label (not an explicitly approved usage by the FDA) for improvements in these areas, this product does have distinctive advantages including degree of lift and duration of effect.

Juvederm Voluma™ XC consists of a hyaluronic acid, a vital substance present in large quantities throughout our bodies and the same type of material that used in the other Juvéderm® formulations, Restylane®, Beletero Balance® and Perlane®. However, it is specially formulated to make it stronger, firmer, much more resistant to compression forces and longer lasting. Furthermore, whereas these other dermal fillers may last around 6 months up to a year, Juvederm Voluma™ XC can last up to two years.

With aging, we gradually lose the natural “S” shaped facial curves of youth which extend down from the cheekbones. Juvederm Voluma™ XC can be used in this area to help restore or create this more youthful contour and may be able to accomplish this with more substantial, natural appearing and longer lasting results than the other products can. It can and is being used in other areas of the face for specific advantages though such usage is considered to be “off-label”.

Juvederm Volbella® XC

Juvederm Volbella® XC is the newest addition to the Juvederm® family of hyaluronic acid soft tissue fillers. It is customized to have a lower concentration of hyaluronic acid than the other Juvederm® products resulting in its ability to provide more effective and smoother, softer outcomes in some challenging areas that often are not ideally treated by other injectables. Fortunately, it also retains the same duration of effect as Juvederm® Ultra XC and Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC.

Areas of usage where Juvederm Volbella® XC can be quite advantageous include:

  • treatment of the fine lines around the mouth (perioral lines)
  • obtaining plumper, more sensuous lips that are soft rather than abnormally over projecting
  • lip rejuvenation by treating wrinkles and generalized deflation of the lips that occurs with age
