The aging process is clearly not very kind with our appearance. We start to see the development of facial wrinkles and creases which with time become more prevalent and substantial. The youthful contours, fullness and firmness yield to atrophy, drooping of the skin and soft tissues and other telltale signs of aging. Fortunately, we now have many viable non-surgical injectable filler options available to combat these changes.

Injectable agents such as Radiesse®, Juvederm®, Restylane® and one’s own fat (fat injections) are among the most popular treatment options which can provide very effective aesthetic improvements. These soft tissue or dermal fillers as they are often referred to, can also be utilized for the enhancement of contours including of the cheeks, chin and nose, lip augmentation and even the leveling and camouflaging of depressed scars.

It should be comforting to note that Dr. Steven H. Turkeltaub is a highly skilled plastic surgeon who possesses extensive experience in the usage of dermal fillers. This will provide you the opportunity to obtain more predictable, significant and pleasing results.

Radiesse® is a “semi-permanent” volume filler which lasts longer than the hyaluronic acid based injectables such as Juvederm and Restylane®. It consists of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres suspended in a gel which is not only biocompatible but also identical to what is present in our bodies. Consequently, it is associated with a very low risk of adverse reactions.

Radiesse® is injected into variable depths of the skin to either fill in wrinkles and creases or to obtain volume enhancement necessary for a more youthful appearance. Because it has greater elasticity and resistance to compression compared to the hyaluronic acids it is particularly effective for obtaining and maintaining areas of discrete projection. These injections are quite tolerable for most and therefore do not necessarily require the use of nerve blocks for comfort.

Studies have revealed that Radiesse® stimulates the production of new collagen (protein) in the tissues which translates into longer lasting effects. Depending on a variety of factors, it may remain present for around 12 to 18 months following injection.

Creases and folds around the mouth and deep lines of the forehead are commonly treated areas. Radiesse® can be used to augment the chin, cheeks, jaw line and brows and to correct or camouflage certain deformities or deficiencies of the nose. It has also been used to obtain a quite remarkable and youthful rejuvenation in the appearance of hands that have thin, wrinkled and aged skin. However, it is not generally recommended to be used for lip augmentation – Juvederm and Restylane® are more appropriate options.
